Oatly was founded back in the 1990s and is based on Swedish research from Lund University. The company’s patented enzyme technology copies nature’s own process and turns fibre rich oats into nutritional liquid food that is perfectly designed for humans. Today, the Swedish company remains independent and dedicated to upgrading the lives of individuals and the general wellbeing of the planet through a lineup of original liquid oat products. www.oatly.com

THE OATLY WAY
Oatly is a company built on the idea of change. Our mission is to help people upgrade their everyday lives and the health of the planet by making tasteful oat-based food products accessible to a wider audience in a world-class manner. It's why we come to work every day. And because health and sustainability are so close to our heart, we are more than just another food company – we are a lifestyle company. Our growth is fast - and accelerating. More and more people choose to switch to a plant-based diet for the sake of their health and the planet. With headquarters in Malmö and production in Sweden and the US, our products are available in almost 30 countries across Europe, North America and Asia.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?
Due to the current, rapid growth of Oatly and its present position as world leader of liquid oat technology and its products, the main owners and the founders have decided to significantly increase the research efforts to encompass all aspects of oats including nutritional and sensory properties.

To be the key actor also in the future, Oatly must be the leader not only in production and marketing of oat-based plant milk products, but also in its basic and applied technology development.  Thus, Oatly must retain and strengthen its position as world leader in knowledge about (liquid) oats, as well as being on top of the development of plant-based dairy in general.

To this end, Oatly is now creating a research organization that will be able to identify, initiate and perform the technology research along the whole value chain that is necessary to secure the long-term goals of the company.
Breeding of unique oat varieties customized for Oatly products and processes is a part of this. An oat breeding group is being set up focusing on quality characteristics. Speed and innovation will be important and use of genetic tools is integral. We offer a position leading the development and application of such tools.

THE ROLE
As a Molecular Geneticist at Oatly, you will be part of the breeding team and take an active role in the development, planning and execution of the molecular aspects of the breeding research. Establishing necessary collaborations and networks to stay world leader will be an integral part of your duties. In the role you will be in a close knit team, where you will work both in the lab and also have the opportunity to work more practical in the green house.

You will use your knowledge in genomics and genetic understanding, with deep knowledge of crop physiology and biochemistry, to develop and implement breeding tools. And use both forward and reverse genetic screens to facilitate trait improvement in oats. Oat populations (varieties, RILs, TILLING pop etc.) will be phenotyped for various quality traits. Genetic background should be explored, and genetic tools should be developed for further breeding. Known genetics behind physiological pathways, in cereals, Arabidopsis etc., should also be used to screen oat lines in
oat populations.

WHO YOU ARE
To thrive and be happy in this role, we believe that you have the following experience:
• PhD in molecular biology, plant genetics, plant breeding or similar
• We appreciate 5  – 10 years of research or work experience after your PhD, within   marker development, genomics, new genetic tools and similar
• Very good knowledge in English, both oral and written
• Willing to relocate, if needed

Some basic knowledge in Swedish will be a plus. We will be more than happy if you have work experience in the industry or in close industrial collaboration. Academic success in relevant areas is also a strong attribute. And if you really want to wow us, you bring knowledge and experience in cereals.

As a professional, you are improvement driven and have an analytical, holistic and structured approach. You have great communication skills and a natural social competence. You like to work in a small group, where collaboration is key. Of course, you are passionate about plant breeding with a result-oriented mind.
